Jammu and Kashmir is located mostly in the Himalayan mountains bordering with the states of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh to the south. It has an international border also with China in the north and east, whereas the Line of Control separates it from Pakistani controlled territories of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit–Baltistan in the west and northwest respectively. Jammu and Kashmir consists of three regions namely: Kashmir valley, Jammu and Ladakh. Kashmir valley, famous for its beautiful mountainous landscape, Jammu, known for numerous shrines and Ladakh known as `Little Tibet’, is renowned for its remote mountain beauty and Buddhist culture. The Mughals called Kashmir ‘Paradise on Earth. It is a land where various holiday ideas are realised. It is a destination for tourist of all ages throughout the year, In winter, there is skiing, sledge-riding, tobogganing etc. along the gentle slopes. In spring and summer, the honey dewed orchards, rippling lakes and blue skies attract everyone to sample the many delights of the mountains and valleys. Most important tourist places are Srinagar, Mughal Gardens, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Jammu and Ladakh. The valley of Kashmir is rich with its culture and natural phenomena. Sample exquisitely spiced native cuisines and festive teas, walk off your meal along the rugged trekking routes to the north. Marvel at the famous houseboats of Srinagar and take a spiritual moment to reflect at one of the many pilgrimage sites and religious shrines that dot the region. Of course, native craftsmanship makes for excellent souvenirs like carpets and textiles are an especial shopping must.
