About Pahalgam

Pahalgam is a town located 45 km from Anantnag district and is also known as `The Valley of Shepherds’. it is situated at an altitude of 7200 ft. from sea level at the junction of the streams flowing from Lidder river and the Sheshnag Lake. Pahalgam was once a humble shepherd's village with breathtaking views. Now it is Kashmir's premier resort, cool even during the height of summer when the maximum temperature does not exceed 25 deg C. Pahalgam has within it no fewer than eight tiny villages, one of which is Mamal. There is a Shiva temple here, generally considered to be Kashmir's oldest existing temple, dating to the 5th century. The surrounding mountains contain many beauty spots and over 20 lakes.

Amarnath Yatras

s The Amarnath Yatra to Baba Amarnath Holy Cave starts from Chandanwari situated around 16 km from Pahalgam and at an altitude of around 2895 meters. One has to trek a height of  about 14,500 ft for this yatra which is surrounded by beautiful valleys and mountains. Around 11 km from Chandanwari lays the mountain Lake Sheshnag, at an altitude of 3574 meter and around 13 km away is the last stop Panchtarni.
