This most densely populated region of Bhutan is one of the most beautiful in all the Himalayas but also the least explored regions. The entire region is covered in natural beauty, towering cliffs and pristine forests with great variations in altitude and climatic conditions. People in this part of Bhutan are fond of a tipple. Eastern region is also famous for its handloom textiles. The landscape is spectacular with stark cliffs and gorges and dense coniferous forests. Most of this region is farmed using a slash and burn system of shifting cultivation. Eastern region is separated from the rest of the country by a large and extremely steep chain of hills. Many towns in Eastern Bhutan are built on the sides of the hills. The lush, breathtaking environments of the eastern region make it a perfect location for day hikes or longer treks.
