Beruwala is situated in the south of Colombo, Sri Lanka. Kachimalai mosque is one of the oldest Islamic mosques. It is a historic place to worship with its simple architecture and it is believed to have been constructed over a thousand of year ago. It is also said that Muslims to come from Arabia settled in Beruwela and that the Kechimalai Mosque was built by them. . Its part of a fascinating collection of mosques, churches and temples out by the fishing port and beach. The Kechimalai Mosque is said to be built on the site of the landing and is the focus for a major Eid-ul-Fitr festival at the end of Ramadan.
He Galapata Buddhist temple was built in the 12th century and is said to be one of the ancient Buddhist temple in Beruwala. This temple is famous for its ancient tooth relics of the 3rd deciple of Buddha. The pillar of the entrance gateway is to be said that ‘Nari Latha’ the temple is the 25 feet long statue of sleeping Buddha. The large bell with inscriptions at the entrance is another must-see feature of the temple.
