Trichy also called as Tiruchirappalli, Tiruchi is situated on the banks of the river Cauvery and it is the fourth largest city in Tamil Nadu. The name of the town, "Tiruchirapalli", originated as a tribute (thiru in Tamil means respected) to a Jain monk called "Chira". Trichy may have been a capital of the early Cholas in the 3rd century BC. It passed through the hands of the Pallavas, medieval Cholas, Pandyas, Delhi Sultanate and Vijayanagars before the Madurai Nayaks really brought it to prominence, making it a capital in the 17th century. Trichy is a fine blend of tradition and modernity built around the Rock Fort. It isn’t just a travel junction but is also mix up of a throbbing bazaar with some major must-see temples.
