Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh is located in eastern part of India at the foothills of Himalayas. The city is named after the irregular shaped Itafort i.e. fort of the bricks which dates back to the 14-15 centuries. It was settlement of the Nishi tribe, one of the largest among the 26 major tribes that inhabit the state. The Nishis are easily recognizable – they sport black and white hornbill feathers in their cane headgear. This city attracts nature lovers as they can view scenic beauty all around and is also dotted with archeological sites of great historical value. Itanagar and nearby areas are excellent places to indulge in adventure sports. Apart from angling and rafting, trekking is an extremely popular activity in Itanagar. Itanagar can be called as mini India, as people from all over the country live here in harmony.
