About Bomdilla

Bomdila is the headquarters of West Kameng district located at the height of 2530 m above the sea level and situated on the ranges of the eastern Himalayas. The scenic road from Tezpur winds steeply up through thick forests to this pleasant town. It was a part of the kingdom of Tibet. In 1873, the British officials brought this area under the state of Arunachal Pradesh. The city reflects the heritage of Buddhist and Tibetan culture. The majority of the local population includes aborigines such as the Aka, Miji, Monpa, Sherdukpen Bogun and other tribes. Bomdila is a beautiful small town where one can see the brilliant landscape and snow-clad mountains of the Himalayan Range. Walking is the best way to getting around the town. There is a panoramic view of the Himalayas and its frosty Kangto & Gorichen peaks and the pretty Kameng valley with its apple orchards, lush forests & trekking trails. It is home to the Aka (Hrusso), Miji (Sajalong), Monpa, Sherdukpen, and Bogun (Khawas) Tribes.

Crafts Centres

s It is famous for its carpet weaving and is located opposite to Lower Gompa. Crafts Centre is one of the major attractions in Bomdila. Tourists visiting this centre can see wide variety of carpets. It presents the wondrous artistic skills of the locales. The craft centre exhibits a wide range of designed thangka wall hangings and numerous paintings. In addition, the centre is famous among tourists for its dragon design carpets.
