About Vadodara

Vadodara is situated on the banks of the Vishwamitri river, southeast of Ahmedabad and 139 km from state capital, Gandhinagar. Vadodara owes much of its splendor to Sayajirao Gaekwad III (1875-1939), a former ruler who transformed his principality into a progressive center of culture, education and industry. Today Vadodara is also known as Baroda, is a vibrant city with many interesting buildings, museums and parks. This industrial city of Vadodara was capital of one of the richest `princely states’ in pre-Independence India. British rule had a major influence on this region but Baroda remained a princely state until Independence and like many others it also joined the Dominion of India in 1947.
